 The Province of Ilocos Norte is located in the
Northwestern part of Luzon and is geographically situated between 17 degrees 48 minutes
and 18 degrees 29 minutes north latitudes and 120 degrees 25 minutes and 120 degrees 58
minutes east longitudes. It is bounded in the east by Cagayan and Apayao, in the southeast
by Abra, in the south by Ilocos Sur and in the west by South China Sea. It is about 487
kms. northnorthwest of Manila.
Ilocos Norte has a total land area of 3,622.91 sq. kms. mostly made of
agricultural forest and build up areas, and has mountains which run northwest and join the
Cordilleras in the east. There are thirteen mountains in the area, most of which are
located in the southwestern portion.
The province is divided into two congressional districts composed of
tewenty-two municipalities and the capital city of Laoag. It has a total of 557 barangays
(municipalities: 447; city: 80). |
